Invisalign

Invisalign is a more natural looking alternative to metal braces—made of clear plastic, you can talk, smile and live your best life while wearing them.

There are more reasons that Invisalign is the preferred choice of over 10 million patients:

  • The process is monitored by your dentist, so important adjustments can be made every step of the way.
  • It’s much easier to clean your teeth—simply remove Invisalign and brush and floss normally.
  • They’re more comfortable than metal braces.
  • Most people don’t even notice you’re wearing them.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a system of clear plastic trays, called aligners, designed to fit over your teeth and straighten them over time. Each successive aligner moves your teeth one step closer to the desired position.

You wear the aligners for 22 hours a day, and need to remove them to eat, drink anything other than water, and clean your teeth. But aside from that you can go about life normally.

How does Invisalign work?

There’s a lot of amazing technology behind this simple sounding process. Here’s how it works:

  1. Your dentist takes a 3D scan of your mouth that shows the exact position of every tooth.
  2. She works with advanced computer software to plan every step of the realignment process.
  3. Your first sets of aligners are made and trimmed to fit your gum line, and you start wearing each set for one to two weeks, depending on your dentist’s instructions.
  4. You continue to visit your dentist, who checks how your teeth are doing and makes adjustments to the treatment plan if needed.

It’s a process that’s been successfully proven since 1998.

What kinds of problems can Invisalign fix?

Invisalign can be used to treat a number of alignment issues:

  • Medium to severe overbites.
  • Mild to medium underbites.
  • Crowded teeth, which often worsen over time.
  • Crooked teeth.
  • Gaps in the teeth (in some cases we can also fix gaps with BioClear resin).

Most of us don’t have just one problem with the alignment of our teeth, and Invisalign is ideal to treat complex combinations of issues.

What about off the shelf systems?

While off-the-shelf alignment systems may have a lower cost, Invisalign definitely provides better results because of the dentist’s involvement in the process. Invisalign also uses a custom-designed and superior type of plastic that is much more comfortable to wear.
Some systems have remote dental caregivers, but because they’re not looking directly at your teeth (only molds or photos), they might overlook unerupted/impacted teeth, cysts, tumours, dental decay and dental infections before treatment begins. The result may be serious adverse effects to your teeth and health in situations like these.

What happens if I don’t straighten my teeth?

Many dental alignment problems, even if they aren’t painful, can make it harder to clean your teeth properly and may cause other problems in the long term.

Helping you achieve a healthier smile

The alignment of your teeth is essential for proper chewing, and will help you avoid more serious problems like jaw and airway misalignments, which can affect your overall health.
