Dental surgery

While Oceana Dental is very focused on prevention, sometimes we recommend a surgical procedure to a patient for the sake of their health.

When we do need to go ahead with dental surgery, our approach provides you with some very important benefits:

  • Faster procedures that reduce or eliminate the need for multiple visits.
  • Faster healing thanks to reduced damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

We also give precise dietary and lifestyle recommendations to follow before the surgery date. This will optimize your health, promote faster healing and greatly reduce the risk of complications. It’s all a part of our dedication to better dental and whole body health.

DENTAL SURGERY

Why our approach gives you the best possible results

Before, during and after surgery, the details can mean a lot to our patients. To start off, we do everything we can to create a relaxing environment, and offer several dental sedation options.

During surgery, we not only use minimally invasive approaches, our investment in the latest technology like microscope dentistry and 3D guided surgery can offer you a better experience and outcome.

Promoting faster healing is also a very big part of how we work. Our use of soft tissue laser scalpels, which cauterize nerve endings and blood vessels, will reduce bleeding and tissue damage. To promote faster regeneration, we use platelet rich fibrin (PRF) and platelet rich plasma (PRP) from a small sample of your own blood.

Our dental surgery procedures

We can perform a variety of surgeries on the premises:

The extraction process involves a smooth removal of the tooth, removal of the periodontal ligament, and special post operative healing procedures. Once the tooth is removed, the periodontal ligament and potentially up to one millimeter of spongy bone in the socket is removed. This is often referred to as an alveoloplasty.

Removing infected bone and/or the surrounding calcium-dense wall (osteoectomy or alveoplasty) takes the socket down to good, healthy bone, promoting natural nutrient flow into the area and waste flow out.

Both of our dentists, Dr. Jacqueline Gaudet and Dr. Mark McCullough are highly experienced in dental surgery.

3D guided surgery for dental implants

Traditional dental surgery relies on what can be seen with the human eye. 3D surgery goes below the surface, and helps us plan a less invasive procedure. Using high resolution x-ray imagery, we can see the details of the roots of your teeth, jawbone, blood vessels, nerves and other tissues, and work around them as much as possible.

The information from the 3D model of your mouth is used to create a plastic and metal guide that helps us insert the implant in precisely the right location. During the surgery, the computer system gives us real-time information about the position of our tools to confirm perfect accuracy. You can read more about dental implants here.

Ozone Therapy – Healing After Dental Surgery

After a surgery, the healing process is extremely important. If you’re looking for a holistic dentistry treatment that supports natural healing, then ozone therapy might be for you! This minimally invasive approach to oral care can be used to clear away infection, heal gums and reduce tooth sensitivity. Ozone gel is known to enhance oxygen metabolism, induce enzymes and activate the immune response. This has the effect of reducing the possibility of postoperative infection and speeds up wound healing! Many patients favour this service because it’s conservative, painless, minimally invasive and can dramatically lessen treatment time. Read more about Ozone Therapy here.
